Eastern Region Police say there is need for a strong relationship between the police and journalists in order to ensure proper dissemination of news in the region.

The Commissioner of Eastern Region Police, Chikondi Mkwate Chingadza, said this during an interface meeting with media practitioners from the region at the region’s headquarters in Zomba where she officially introduced herself to them.

“The police cannot work in isolation and journalists play a vital role in policing. So, I invited them to interact and share notes on how best we can strengthen our relationship,” said Chingadza.

She also added that it is the duty of journalists as well as the police to ensure proper dissemination of news to prevent misinformation especially now as the country heads towards the 16 September election.

In his remarks, the district information officer for Zomba, Solister Mogha, expressed gratitude for the interaction with the commissioner saying it is an indication of the smooth coordination that is there between the two sides.

“However, I would like to request that both parties to work hand in hand because sour relationships sometimes lead to the chocking of the proper flow of information,” said Mogha.

The meeting was also attended by the Deputy Commissioner of Police for the Eastern Region, Francis Chisoti.
