The University of Malawi (UNIMA) has advised new graduates from the institution to be citizens of integrity and serve the nation diligently.
UNIMA’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Samson Sajidu, made the remarks this morning at the Great Hall in Zomba during the Second Congregation of 2025 where 1, 350 students from UNIMA, Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHES) and Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) are being awarded with certificates, diplomas and degrees.
Sajidu reminded the new graduates to always remember that the university does not teach corruption, therefore they should not compromise their values.
“There is no course that teaches bribery, dishonesty, or abuse of office in the UNIMA curricula. You are ambassadors of this institution, so you should carry yourselves with honour by resisting the temptation to take shortcuts for temporary gain,” said Sajidu.

The Vice-Chancellor also encouraged the new graduates to also repay their student loans so that others can also benefit from the facility.
“Education is not just a personal gain; it is also a national investment. Therefore, repay all student loans so that other well-deserving prospective students should also benefit,” pleaded Sajidu.
He also called on the new graduates to be responsible exercise their right by participating in the 16 September election in order for democracy to thrive.
In his remarks, UNIMA Council Chairperson, Dr. Christopher Guta urged the graduates to carry the values of excellence, patriotism and hard work as they endeavour to serve the society.
“The world is complex. It is full of challenges and opportunities. You must dream big and embrace learning so that you should strive in your journey,” stressed Guta.
Out of the 1, 350 students who have graduated today, 614 are females while 736 are males.
