UNIMA’s School of Law, Economics and Government awards outstanding staff

The School of Law, Economics and Government at the University of Malawi has awarded eight academic members of staff for their outstanding performance during the 2025 Annual Academic Staff Excellence Awards.

The event, which took place on 20th March 2026 at the Wadonda Lecture Theatre, brought together lecturers, students, and other invited guests to celebrate hard work, commitment, and excellence in research and publication.

Executive Dean for the school, Professor Happy Kayuni, emphasised the importance of research output in raising the institution’s profile.

“These publications are crucial in helping the
University to achieve a higher ranking, as those who assess and rank universities place significance on such scholarly work,” explained Kayuni.

The awards were conferred to Professor Louis Dzimbiri, Dr. Tiyesere Chikapa, Maureen Kapanga, Dr. Martin Mwale, Dr. Gowokani Chijere Chirwa, Edward Lemani, Dr. Ngcimezile Mbano-Mweso, and Dr. Farai Chigaru.

The awards covered categories such as Best Book Publication, Best Journal Publication, Resource Mobilisation, and Rising Star, highlighting excellence across different academic fields.

Guest of Honour, Dr. Maurice Monjerezi, who is UNIMA’s Director of Research, Innovation and Postgraduate Studies, applauded the awardees and encouraged continued research that contributes to national development.
