Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr Bright Molande, has emphasised the role universities play in mindset change which is essential for development.
Molande said this during the India Dialogue held at the University of Malawi on Friday 5th December 2025 meant to foster partnership between Malawi and India.
He said there is also need for Malawians to place value in themselves and realise that there is a lot the country can offer which in turn can strengthen relations with other countries.
“Universities have the ability to be catalysts for mindset change and this partnership between India and UNIMA will help the two realise that they have a lot to offer each other to advance development,” Molande said.
Indian High Commissioner to Malawi, Amararam Gujar, said their government is committed to assisting UNIMA and hoped the MoU they signed earlier will necessitate a lot of opportunities between the university and the government of India.
Vice-Chancellor of UNIMA, Professor Samson Sajidu, hinted on staff and student exchange programs as very crucial for the two in terms of knowledge acquisition.
“There is a lot that we can benefit from this partnership and by the end of the day we will share knowledge through exchange programmes,” Sajidu Said.
