Chief Justice Rizine Mzikamanda says the Judiciary is reorganising its operations to bring court services closer to the people and ensure that citizens have confidence in constitutionally established courts.
Mzikamanda made the remarks on Wednesday during the fourth Judiciary Open Day held at St. Augustine 3 Primary School Ground in Mangochi under the theme “Access to Justice: The Right.”
He said the event provides the public with an opportunity to interact with judicial officers and gain a better understanding of court procedures and administration of justice.
He therefore asked Malawians to openly share their experiences with the courts, saying public feedback is important for improved justice delivery.
“We want our Judiciary to be transparent, open and responsive to the needs of the people. Events such as the Judiciary Open Day will help us interact with Malawians for them to better understand how the courts operate, thereby strengthening public confidence in the country’s justice system,” Mzikamanda said.
Senior Chief Mponda commended the initiative, saying it has helped people understand proper procedures for seeking justice through the country’s court system.
He stressed the need for individuals who are dissatisfied with decisions made by traditional leaders to seek justice through the courts.
The Judiciary Open Day is an annual event held as part of efforts to enhance access to justice and to promote public understanding of the country’s justice system.
The first Judiciary Open Day was held in Blantyre in 2023, before moving to Lilongwe in 2024, and Mzimba in 2025.
