Zomba District Agriculture Office says it has started implementing measures aimed at mitigating the effects of the El Niño weather conditions.
Zomba District Agriculture Officer, Dr Oscar Kambombe, says the district has developed a strategy which includes other concerned departments such as water resource management and environmental organisations.
He says the strategy was developed following the release of the El Niño weather forecast by the Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services.
Kambombe further added that awareness meetings with farmers have already started as part of the preparedness for the upcoming farming season.
“We have held meetings in various Extension Planning Areas (EPAs) with farmers and all concerned stakeholders,” said Kambombe.
