As one way of strengthening one of its pillars, Chanco Community Radio’s Bwalo la Amayi group has donated assorted items to needy families within Zomba city.

Chairperson for the group, Flora Selemani, said apart from conserving and restoring the environment, the women in the group also prioritise charity work in order to ease some of the challenges that people face in their daily lives.

“Our charity work is an a number of categories. We sometimes visit hospitals to cheer the sick and do cleaning exercises in various places. This time around we decided to contribute from our pockets so that we can buy a few basic needs for our friends,” explained Selemani.

One of the beneficiaries, 84-year-old, Dorothy Nedi, who is a guardian to three orphans said the donated items will help to relax her mind for the next few days.

The ceremony started with a luncheon and the beneficiaries received items like sugar, salt, maize flour, soap and cash among others.
