There is renewed optimism at Changalume Barracks as the military side returns to its adopted home, Zomba Stadium, this afternoon for a crucial NBS National Division League encounter against fellow strugglers Mighty Tigers.

The match presents an opportunity for both sides to revive their campaigns after difficult starts to life in the second-tier league.

Bottom-placed Changalume, who earned promotion from the newly established Eastern Region Division, finally showed signs of progress last weekend when they fought back twice to secure a 2-2 draw away to fellow newcomers Chilobwe United at Mpira Stadium.

The result earned the soldiers their first point of the campaign and injected fresh confidence into a team that had previously struggled for both goals and results.

William Msowoya emerged as the standout performer in that encounter, earning the Man of the Match award after an industrious display that underlined Changalume’s growing resilience.

The draw also highlighted the progress being made by the Zomba-based outfit.

After failing to make a significant impact in their opening matches, Changalume demonstrated improved attacking qualities by finding the back of the net twice. However, defensive frailties remain a concern, with the side still searching for its first clean sheet of the season.

Saturday’s fixture marks a return to familiar territory for Changalume and could provide the spark they need in their battle against relegation.

The soldiers will be hoping to capitalise on home support and are expected to appeal for patience, sympathy and encouragement from football fans in Zomba as they continue adjusting to the demands of the NBS Bank National Division League.

Also struggling: Mighty Tigers

For Mighty Tigers, the trip to Zomba Stadium comes at a difficult time.

Fresh from relegation from the elite league, the Kau Kau Boys have endured an underwhelming start to the season and currently occupy ninth place with four points from four matches.

Their latest setback came at the same venue where they suffered a disappointing defeat to Namitete Zitha, a result that handed the latter their first victory and first three points of the campaign.

Instead of mounting an immediate challenge for promotion back to the top flight, Tigers find themselves looking over their shoulders, with only a three-point cushion separating them from bottom-placed Changalume.

The encounter, therefore, carries significant implications for both sides. A victory for Changalume could breathe life into their survival hopes and narrow the gap on their relegation rivals, while Tigers desperately need maximum points to move away from the danger zone and restore confidence in a campaign that has failed to meet expectations.

With both teams eager to turn their fortunes around, Zomba Stadium could witness a fiercely contested battle between two sides seeking redemption in the NBS Bank National Division League.

The match will be broadcast live on Chanco Community Radio.
