Chiradzulu District Council has started implementing seven Governance to Enable Service Delivery projects worth K778 million aimed at improving infrastructure and socio-economic services in the district.
Director of Public Works for Chiradzulu District Council, Francis M’baya, disclosed this on Thursday while presenting a progress report on the projects during a District Executive Committee meeting.
“As Chiradzulu District, we have received K778 million for completion of the seven projects and the works commenced last month,” said M’baya.
M’baya said the projects are funded through the World Bank’s Performance Based Financing Scheme and are aligned with the district’s development priorities.
He said six of the projects were initially part of the previous Performance Based Grant programmes and have now been upgraded to ensure they become fully functional.
M’baya explained that the upgrading includes provision of furniture, equipment, water supply and electrification services.
The projects are being implemented at Ng’omba, Chanza and Chimwalira health posts, Masalani Girls Hostel, Mbulumbuzi Skills Development Centre, PIM Teacher Development Centre and Chiradzulu Primary School.
Chiradzulu District Commissioner, Ellestina M’mame, said she was impressed with the progress of the projects which are nearing completion.
M’mame said the completion of the projects will help improve the livelihoods of communities in the district.
She cited Masalani Girls Hostel as one of the facilities expected to provide a conducive learning environment for girls.
M’mame also urged communities surrounding the projects to safeguard the infrastructure from vandalism and theft.
She appealed to community members to report any acts of vandalism or theft of project materials to relevant authorities.
The seven projects are expected to be completed by mid-April this year.
