Football lovers in Zomba will have to wait a little longer to watch their local military sides, Changalume Barracks and Red Lions, in action this weekend as both teams will be absent from Zomba Stadium.
Red Lions, who ply their trade in the elite league, are currently on recess as domestic football attention shifts to the knockout competition, the Airtel Top 8, which takes precedence this weekend.
Meanwhile, NBS National Division League side Changalume Barracks will also be on the road, travelling to Blantyre where they face Chilobwe United at Mpira Stadium on Saturday.
The soldiers from Zomba are still searching for their first point of the campaign after three straight defeats and face another difficult assignment against a Chilobwe side buoyed by their first win of the season over Namitete Zitha.
However, Zomba Stadium will not be devoid of football action.
The spotlight will shift to recently relegated Mighty Tigers, who host struggling Namitete Zitha in a Matchweek Four encounter of the NBS Bank National Division League.
The fixture is likely to attract considerable interest from local supporters eager to watch the famous Kau-Kau Boys as they continue their quest for an immediate return to the top flight.
Mighty Tigers are among the four teams tied on four points in the early standings, alongside Ntaja United, Chilobwe United and Mzuzu City Hammers, and a victory over bottom-placed Namitete Zitha would significantly strengthen their promotion credentials.
For Namitete Zitha, the match represents an opportunity to end a miserable start to life in the National Division League. They are yet to collect a point this season and head to Zomba desperate to avoid a fourth consecutive defeat.
Elsewhere, Matchweek Four’s headline fixture takes place at Rumphi Stadium where second-placed Songwe Border United and third-placed Embangweni United clash in a top-of-the-table showdown.
Both teams have accumulated seven points from three matches and remain firmly in the hunt for early supremacy alongside leaders Ndirande Stars.
The weekend’s opening fixture saw FOMO FC miss the chance to move to the summit after being held to a 1-1 draw by Bangwe All Stars at Mpira Stadium on Friday.
The result left FOMO in fifth place on six points, just one point behind the leaders.
With only two points separating the top five teams, the NBS National Division League continues to promise an enthralling promotion race.
But in Zomba, all eyes will be on Mighty Tigers as supporters seek their football fix during the temporary absence of Red Lions and Changalume Barracks from home soil.
