All is set for the 2026 Kickboxing National Championship slated for Saturday, November 7 at China Complex in Zomba, with more than 10 kickboxing clubs across the country expected to compete.

Malawi Kickboxing Association (MAKBA) General Secretary, Bright Limani, has confirmed that preparations are at an advanced stage as they expect over 30 fights in different categories.

“People must expect great competition and super fights at this year’s championship,” he said.

Limani added that MAKBA anticipates high-level competition as the championship will be used to select athletes to represent the national team at an international competition.

“This year’s championship will be different from other championships as it will be used as a platform to select the Malawi Kickboxing National Team to participate in Four Nations Kickboxing Tournament later this month,” he added.

Area 23 Kickboxing Club Coach, Nelson Kutchona said his team was well-prepared, calling upon fans to patronise the event.

“Malawi kickboxing is now at an advanced level, so people should expect good and beautiful fights. Malawi is expecting to host the zonal international kickboxing champions this year, and this tournament can produce the best players in all categories,” he added.

At this year’s tournament, athletes will compete in various weight categories including 60kg, 65kg and 70kg in the men’s division while female athletes will compete in catch weight categories.

Winners in the respective categories will receive K70,000 in prize money, while runners-up will take home K50,000 and bronze medalists will get K40,000.
